Rene,

Much thanks for the explanation on Color Management and on jpegs, I was told a completely different story. I was told that every time you open a jpeg and close it loses data. So, if I understand your explanation correctly, it is only if you 'save' and 'close', right? Just simply opening and closing will not cause the image to lose data?

As for converted images in DPP vs LR2 vs PS4, the ones from DPP and LR2 look the same, the ones from PS4 look different. This was the part that the people at Adobe could not walk me through. I can open one image in LR2 and PS4 and the ACR in CS4 will change the saturation/hue. Any suggestions?

Thanks again!

You can open a jpg as often as you like, nothing will happen to it. It's only degraded when compressed.

For instance, if I open a jpg in PS and do this:

  • edit
  • save
  • edit some more
  • save
  • edit a bit
  • save
  • close

It's effectively only compressed once (the last save before closing), because when you have the file open in PS, it's just (uncompressed) pixels.

If I do this:
  • edit
  • save
  • close
  • open
  • edit some more
  • save
  • close
  • open
  • edit a bit
  • save
  • close

Then I am severely degrading the image, since it's compressed three times.

If I do this:

  • open
  • close
  • open
  • close
  • open
  • close

Nothing at all happens to the file.

This is for CR2 images, right?

Any "presets" that get applied in either software?
Screenshot might help.

The updates are full versions. Follow the instructions on this page. It will help get the update loaded without the disks.
