Ok, so i bought a tamron 10-24 and it broke within a month, AF motor would lock up and when it did work it would have a horrible grinding sound.

that one got returned and newegg shipped me a replacement (bran new) in the end of march, I've been using the lens for 2 months now, I use it once a week and put about 200 pics through it everytime, and this lens as of today started throwing ERR 99 codes on my camera and will not stop, i've isolated the problem to the lens since my camera is just dandy with any other lense i have.

am i alone on having these problems with tamron? I was wanting to buy a 17-50 within the next few months and issues with this lens is making me having hard 2nd thoughts.

I have one Tamron and am very unhappy with the quality. it was cheap though and it behaves as such.

I've had great experience with Tamron. My 28-75 f2.8 is one of the sharpest lenses I've used....

Sorry for your misfortune. I shot with a refurb 17-50mm Tamron for about 6 months before I gave it to my son in law. He has been shooting with it for about a year now, and has had no problems with it at all. He has probably used it for several thousand pictures in that time.

I had a 17-35 and was very happy with it. I've entertained the idea of a 28-75 as well. All good luck on my end.

My own 17-50 from a few years ago worked flawlessly. Even included a great sound effect -- the robocop moving noise with the AF. :3 I kinda miss that sounds, actually.

But, if you're buying in-store, try a few copies. But, I've had great luck with my Tammy, and my friend uses it as a walkaround since then.
