Hello,
Can anyone give me some guidance on selecting a laptop with the right monitor for editing photos? I purchased the Dell u2410 for my desktop and I dont think I want to edit pictures on the cheapest panel anymore.
Can anyone recommend a good type of panel and which brand carries it.

Few laptops have "the right monitor", since most laptops' screens are designed for portability and power efficiency rather than colour accuracy. The superior S-IPS panels used in the Dell u2410 use more energy than the TN panels used in almost all laptops. Worse, most laptops don't have hardware colour calibration. Moreover, people generally don't compare laptop screens.

However, I'd expect some professional laptops for graphics design etc (such as this: http://boxxtech.com …/goboxx_1620_overview.asp (external link)) would have better screens than most consumer laptops (though don't take my word for it). I heard (and seen) that Apple Macbook Pro displays are quite good as well.

Maybe you could just plug your laptop into your Dell monitor when at home? The Synergy software is very useful (external link) if you intend to do that.
