I've always craved more screen real estate, and as my cameras have gotten bigger, so have my monitors.
I started with a 17inch screen, added a 15inch to it, then moved to a 19inch Triniton with the 17inch as a secondary, then two 19 inch Trinitrons, then a 21inch and a 19inch Trinitron.

That gave me 1800 x 1440 and 1600 x 1200.

But, I've just upgraded yet again, replacing my 21inch Dell Trinitron with a 21inch IBM Trinitron which displays a massive 2048 x 1536.
I now have a 4:3 ratio screen with more than full HD resolution.
Its slightly nuts.

I just played COD MW2 on it, and it looks so much better at 1920 x 1080 (if a little stretched  )

And my photos, they just look stunning, and I don't drown in to much detail when viewing at 100%.

Moppie.... Do you find that your electric bills are growing proportionately with your monitors?

The higher the better :D can't get enough of my 2560*1600, amazing for editing photos and gaming. Once you upgrade you don't want to go back anymore...

It's a HP LP3065 30", I got it about two years ago more so for gaming purposes. Nowadays it's mostly photo/video editing.

I think a 24" full HD monitor is a good bet right now. That's what I've got with my desktop (along with a 14.1" 1366x768 laptop monitor) and I think it suits well. It's not too large that you need to sit back from it, but the detail is very nice as a result of the resolution.

Sorry Can I see a picture of this setup?

I have this exact same monitor and it's beautiful. The only downside I have right now is the size on the computer desk I just got. It was an older one I used in high school and the beginning of college that was a decent size, but when I moved out I didn't have room for it. Now I have space and the monitor is so large, that until I take one of the upper shelves I have to have the base sitting on a phone book. At that point, the monitor is on a raised shelf sitting on a phone book and raised to the highest position. It's like sitting in the front row of a movie theatre.

Other than that, it's nice to be able to open several windows and have them side by side when working so that you're not constantly cycling through windows trying to find the ones you're working with. I usually have a butt ton of windows open.

Have you calibrated it Village_Idiot? I'm currently just running the default profile, I've been thinking about getting a wide gamut calibrator. At least running the default profile is a lot better than none at all which results in over saturated images. The images are still over saturated in non color managed applications even with a profile. I don't care too much about it though since my photo/video editing applications are color managed and so is Firefox :)

The extra desktop space sure is nice.

It takes up a fair amount of space, I'll get a photo as soon as I can make the desk look a little presentable

I have a Spyder 3 Pro. It's so awesome. I'll take a photo of the setup when I get it cleaned up. We recently had a roommate swap with people moving out then in so everything is just getting cleaned up from being in Chaos last weekend. That and instead of doing the cleaning I should have been doing this week, I spent most of my time getting Snow Leopard installed on my gaming rig. :D

I know every monitor is different but how big is the difference for you between the LP3065 icc profile and your calibrated profile? Trying to justify spending 130€ on a spyder 3 pro :D

Are those models on the top shelf? I also like the Apple sticker. :)

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

Just to answer your topic title - yes there is (as least as long as DPI doesn't scale well in all aps as they are builf or 96DPI).

My laptop is around 113DPI - when I started on it (new) it was a tad too small for me, now I got used to it - but if it gets much smaller then yes, there is too much resolution of too small a screen - however, if you can cleanly scale it up - no problem.

On a large computer screen - well, theoretically no - not really - although I'd be hard pressed to use a screen larger than 13,3" - that's my laptop's size... an I turn my head to look at screen edges - but that might be me....
