Hello all.

A quick question really. Is there a difference between filters for film cameras and digital cameras, especially a polarizing filter? I have a Hoya PL-CIR which I have tried on both of my canon Digital lenses, but doesn't give the same results as when used on an FD lens on my T90 body. The colours don't seem to be so deep and vibrant.

Camera settings, not filters.

Color reproduction from digital cameras is relative, not absolute. If you want "deep and vibrant" colors from a Canon DSLR, change the color settings in the camera's Picture Styles menu. Or, change white balance or adjust the images with an editing program. Those are basic ways to get any color rendition you want from a DSLR. It's trivial to use Picture Styles to increase saturation, for example.

If you want deep and vibrant colours the easiest way I know is to change to "Landscape" Picture Style, and then just adjust WB to change the warmness or coolness of the image

No. Any advertised "difference" is just a marketing ploy to separate you from your money. Either way, it will do you justice to use a high quality filter for either medium...

Thanks guys for your replies. Nice to know I don't need to buy a new filter.
