I bought a pack of 10 Silica Gel bags from Amazon last November. You could try looking there. I think chemists sell them too.

BTW I see we have roughly the same gear

Good hunting

How do you plan on using them?

If you are thinking of just tossing the dessicant packs into a standard camera bag, you might as well scrap that idea. The reason is simple. Unless the container is air tight, a dessicant pack will very quickly become saturated (assuming the air is moist enough to worry about it in the first place, of course) because water vapor in the air will replace that adsorbed by the dessicant through any holes in the container. Vapor pressure differential is what makes that happen.

Pelican do a handy little metal canister filled with reusable beads - we have two and they last a few weeks to a couple of months in the Pelican cases we have before requiring reheating.

This may sound funny, but they sell silica bead cat litter up here. The stuff works wonderfully. I use it in my garage to keep my tools rust free. I made up a cotton bag and fill it with the cat litter crystals.

And the great part is it only costs $18 for a massive bag. The stuff also works wonderfully for removing odor out of your shoes.

Matt.

Matt, I take it it's not because of the cat getting to your shoes ;)

Thanks for your neat and very cost-effective solution.

Cheers

What Skip said.

unless you completely seal up the container with the camera in it, any of the silica desiccants (and pretty much any desiccant) are a waste of money - as in complete waste of money. They are not magic and they cannot hold an infinite amount of water which is what they must do if they are not sealed to the outside air.

If you don't believe me, go buy the version that has the color indicator that shows when they are saturated. Try that, and you'll see just how fast they saturate. Been there, done that.

Keep it out of condensing atmospheres as Canon recommends. The trick is keeping the camera gear warmer than the dewpoint of the surrounding air. Unless you are storing this in tropical environments, I don't think you have much to worry about.
