I've got a question to all you bee owners. Did AB change their speedring? The image they show on their site,

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: 404 | MIME changed to 'text/html' | Byte size: ZERO

Is much different than the one that came with my foldable octobox. The reason I ask is, I would like to put my Amvona softbox on my AB, but the speedring doesn't allow for it.

The one they have on their site looks like it will fit the Amvona softbox because it has the holes to insert the metal rods into. The speedring it came with looks as if the metal rods go in and are screwed in somehow.

Hopefully that made sense, if not I can take pics.

Thanks!
Mike

The speedring on the foldable is different than the one for the fixed soflboxes. As for the amvona, wasnt at least some of their stuff proprietary for use on their lights? If so they may not take a universal speedring setup.

I don't think all of the Amvona stuff is proprietary. You can probably check their support area to find out if the item you are looking at will work w/ a standard PB/AB speedring. You can always buy the speedring separately from the AlienBees site.

You should be able to get a speedring adapter. That's the part that the light fits into that is held on the speedring by four thumb screws.

I have found there are two, maybe more, outer diameters for adapters, so make sure you get one that fits the Amvona speedring.

The adapters are available from a number of eBay sources as well as Adorama and B&H.

As a first step, see if the adapter in your foldable box will fit into the Amvona box speedring. If it does then you know which adapter to get. It should be the Red Wing RD6215 from B&H or other sources.
