It is pretty. I would change the composition a bit so the subject is not so centered. Also, it had just a bit of a gray cast to it. If you do a very slight curves adjustment, it could really pop :)

First of all, congrats on the 50d, you're gonna love it more every day. What lens did you use for this shot? Here's for the nitty-gritty: I'm no expert, but it looks like you did a great job using depth of field to draw the attention to the center cluster of flowers. You also were right-on with the focus, I think it's great clarity. Overall, I think the picture is a decent flower picture, but it doesn't have a specific point of interest (like a bee or a butterfly on the flowers). It looks like you nailed the technical aspects of the shot, so give yourself a pat on the back, you're a quick learner with that camera.
As far as the composition, a general guideline is the "rule of thirds", where there are imaginary lines dividing the picture into thirds, both horizontally and vertically. If you're familiar with the game "tic-tac-toe", it's like the lines you draw at the beginning of a game. Your subject is usually at one of the intersections of those lines (there are four intersections). Typically you avoid putting your subject "smack-dab" in the middle. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule, so play around with it and see what you like best. I would try this shot again, and maybe place the cluster of flowers in the lower left, for example.
Check out these two pics of the same flower, same background, etc. The first is dead-center, and I think it's not very appealing

The second is slightly off to the left, and (in my opinion) does a better job of holding your attention:

It's a matter of personal preference, but most people (I think) would choose the second. Anyway, that's just my opinion. Good job on the capture, and welcome to POTN!
