I recently completed a photography workshop, with the last session being a model shoot. I would to get your C & C on a few of the shots. I need all the help I can get to improve my skills. Thank you for looking and thanks in advance for your advise.

#1 kept me thinking. So I think it's a good shot.

As for #2, I would be interested to hear what your workshop moderator had to say about tilted shots. Just about any time somebody posts tilted shots on this forum, it raises a chorus of objections. As for myself, I find it annoying to be forced to tilt my head in order to appreciate a photo. I mean, really annoying. It's a cheesy effect, a gimmick. Did I say that I find it inordinately annoying?

Ouch. I find you annoying. I think you could have been a little nicer. Everyone here is not a professional. The reason I joined the forum is to learn. Apparently, I have learned that some people are just down right mean and don't want to help others out. Don't get me wrong, I can take constructive critisim and that is what I am looking for. All you have to do is point out what you see wrong with a photo in a nice way, then some pointers on how to correct them or if you don't like it the photo all together just simply say so or say nothing at all.

Joe was not being rude, he was stating his opinion on the photos you put on here for C
&C;)

I think the focus feels soft in both photos to be honest. I am not liking the processing that has been done in the first.just too many textures for me, clashing with the softness of what she is wearing.

THe second I like the composition, but please, lose the frame, it adds nothing to the actual photo.

Be careful with vignette, it can make or break a photo's appeal.

I also concur about the angle, it's not doing this photo any favors, and it so rarely works with people, there are some very talented folks here who can use it to make the photo, but its an over worked concept for many. Kind of like Selective Coloring ;)

How could you not think that his way of expressing his opinion was rude? BTW- you don't have to be rude to express an opinon. You pretty much gave me the same opinion about tilted photos, but in a way that came across in a, I'm here to help, kind of way. To be honest I never thought about tilting until I saw some on POTN, and have never read anyones disapproval on them until now. I do see lots about not liking selective coloring. Anyway, to each their own. Thanks to the opinions, critique and comments.

Honestly I dont think Joe was rude. The tilt ruins a good shot for me. Its not as sharp as it could be and for the me color treatment is a kind of borderline. As for the other shot, I like the composition and framing. But that border is ultra cheesy.

I suppose we have been here for a while now, we understand each others C&C remarks. Its not a place for the faint of heart.lol.and sometimes it can be abrupt, but in the long run, for me anyways, it has ALWAYS led me in the right direction for improvements.

If this had been done in sepia.lol.you would have had me on a rant about how I hate sepia;)

Take what you deem helpful.

Great second image and I agree with the previous comments about the border. For me, bridal wear is not everyones first choice of photography and hence no1 looks slightly worse for the subject matter. No2 on the other hand is of a timeless quality.

We ask for C&C but then can't take it when some gives it. ;-)a Been there done that. I can still tell you word by word of some of the C&C I've received when I started posting here. :-( But I've learned they don't mean it in a rude way, it is just imposable to to convey feelings in the written word, then add that most C&C is just done on the fly, due to lack of time, it can all be taken/given in a way not intended. My point is, keep posting images, and keep asking for C&C if you want advice on how to improve your skill's and presentations. Sure you will not agree with all of them, but you'll learn what others like...and that will do nothing but benefit you in the future. JMHO

But with that said, photography is still an art and is very subjected. I'm not a fan of borders or slanting images either...but that is me...my eye does not like that sort of thing. No I do enjoy selective coloring...but boy do I get slammed for it here. LOL but what do I care if I like it? And what do I care if a client likes it? ;-)a

There's Gail...always stirring the pot! LOL

Actually I like 1 other then then it being tilted and too soft. I know a lot of brides like that sort of stuff, but (not trying to be rude are anything) it really hurts my eyes. And not sure if its OOF or if it was softened up in PP.

#2 is very nice, but I would lose the border (this picture really belongs in a nice matt and frame) and I would like to square it up (the keystone) if possible. It might not be able to be squared up without distorting the bride, but I would want to give it a try.
