Neil- This is probably a stupid question. Does one rent the ceremonial outfits for these events or are they purchased or are they made by the family?

I noticed in some of the photos that the females had their heads covered...and in some they didn't. At first I thought it might be due to being married or not...but doesn't appear to be a reasonable answer. Is there a rule at play here or is it just a matter of personal choice? It is a matter of personal choice, but one that is fiercely debated. There are two types of veil, but many variants of these but basically there is the Hajab which is the scarf that covers the hair (and often the neck) and the Niqab which is a full veil. Same with the Sikh religion too. Usually at a "place of worship" the head must be covered at all times. Both male, and female. The men can wear anything (well people have respect not to wear baseball caps) as long as it looks respectful - in Islam, they have a special hat as you saw with Neil, but in Sikhism, you can go by with a strategically placed handkerchief (although the religion states you should wear a turban, but get with the times, not many want to - myself included). The women usually wear a "Chuni" to go/match with their salwar kameez (their brightly coloured suit). The hardcore muslims will wear niqabs or burqas in differing ways. Chet wrote in post #10522057 Neil- This is probably a stupid question. Does one rent the ceremonial outfits for these events or are they purchased or are they made by the family? All are bought. The traditional way is that the bride's family pretty much coughs up the $$$ for the whole wedding, barring just a couple of items, like the groom's suit! But as i said, getting with the times, people share costs now!!

I have been to some enormous 3 day events, and some of the most lavish are from the area that I assume Harm's family hails from the Punjab. I once went to a wedding in the UK where the bride had received over 100 saris as gifts. I asked her what she was going to do with them, without missing a beat she said she would be giving them away..... as wedding presents. ![]() What is a sari? - Kody

I have a couple of people that I've accepted their friend requests that I don't really know and their posts are crazy (I mean like alcoholic rantings). I'm not talking about anyone in here...lol Anyway, I've hidden them, mostly because I got so much flack for unfriending people...but it makes me wonder does anyone just think FB is so blasted encumbering? I have guilt because I WISH I could unfriend some people but not to hurt them. Just to remove them from my space ![]() Hiding seems so silly. I never look again once they are hidden. But I'm also not out to hurt anyone's feelings. Anyway, just wanted some feedback. Sometimes the stupid politics of FB makes me feel like Jr. High all over again. I hide and delete things all the time. Just use FB for your enjoyment and forget the rest. - Kody
