Neil- This is probably a stupid question. Does one rent the ceremonial outfits for these events or are they purchased or are they made by the family?

NEIL, lovely weddings shots. Did you wear their traditional clothing because it was required, or because you wanted to?

And sorry to hear about Norman, I assume he is just showing symptoms, and not suffering too much (other than with the lack of teeth.)

I have a question that you may or may not be able to answer. I noticed in some of the photos that the females had their heads covered...and in some they didn't. At first I thought it might be due to being married or not...but doesn't appear to be a reasonable answer. Is there a rule at play here or is it just a matter of personal choice?

It is a matter of personal choice, but one that is fiercely debated. There are two types of veil, but many variants of these but basically there is the Hajab which is the scarf that covers the hair (and often the neck) and the Niqab which is a full veil.

The Hajab is very commonly seen in the UK the Niqab less so.

Rule at play. Same with the Sikh religion too. Usually at a "place of worship" the head must be covered at all times. Both male, and female. The men can wear anything (well people have respect not to wear baseball caps) as long as it looks respectful - in Islam, they have a special hat as you saw with Neil, but in Sikhism, you can go by with a strategically placed handkerchief (although the religion states you should wear a turban, but get with the times, not many want to - myself included). The women usually wear a "Chuni" to go/match with their salwar kameez (their brightly coloured suit). The hardcore muslims will wear niqabs or burqas in differing ways.

All are bought. The traditional way is that the bride's family pretty much coughs up the $$$ for the whole wedding, barring just a couple of items, like the groom's suit! But as i said, getting with the times, people share costs now!!

But that is what you see, there is a whooooooooole lot more to weddings than meet the eyes - plenty of days of traditional stuff and partying before and after the wedding..

Permie, this is all true. And I'm sure for even Dan it's still somewhere in the back of his mind.

honestly, I think what's in the back of his mind is that his dad is gone and he wished he'd better spent the time he had with him.

Chris, life is really short. And a lot of it is really hard. For most of us, the few highlights we have are the people we love. Whether they are related to us or not. Sometimes we forget that when we see one another every day. We forget anyway, until they aren't there anymore.

I'm just saying that while I understand your feelings are hurt, you have a choice to hang on to this and let it cause a real (whether emotional or physical) breach or accept that he may not like your style and move on. We all have things that our parents wouldn't do or wouldn't approve...that's because we aren't them. Right or not, that's how it is. But it's the choices we make that affect our happiness/quality of life. Choose to not let this opinion make you bitter. Let it go. (really let it go) You will come out a better person for it. And soon, it will hurt less and eventually it won't matter at all in the scope of things.

and with that, ends my seriousness for the month....

What Harm said.

Some weddings are unbelievably lavish and expensive. I have been to some enormous 3 day events, and some of the most lavish are from the area that I assume Harm's family hails from the Punjab.

I once went to a wedding in the UK where the bride had received over 100 saris as gifts. I asked her what she was going to do with them, without missing a beat she said she would be giving them away..... as wedding presents. :-)

do you guys find yourselves "hiding" people on FB?

I have a couple of people that I've accepted their friend requests that I don't really know and their posts are crazy (I mean like alcoholic rantings). I'm not talking about anyone in here...lol Anyway, I've hidden them, mostly because I got so much flack for unfriending people...but it makes me wonder does anyone just think FB is so blasted encumbering? I have guilt because I WISH I could unfriend some people but not to hurt them. Just to remove them from my space :lol: Hiding seems so silly. I never look again once they are hidden. But I'm also not out to hurt anyone's feelings.

Anyway, just wanted some feedback. Sometimes the stupid politics of FB makes me feel like Jr. High all over again.

I hide and delete things all the time. Just use FB for your enjoyment and forget the rest. ;)
