You kids all make good points. This one just hits close to home for me, as my dad is a photographer and I aspired to be a bit like him as a kid.

My 2 cents worth and it probably isn't even worth that much:

First Permie hit a lot of key points, very well said.

Second, ask you dad, what is wrong with them? If it is something technical then ask him to teach you. If it is artistic, then you have to come to terms with subjectiveness of any artisitic endever and that the problem isn't yours, really not your dad's either, just a difference in taste, and something you will never be able to succumb. Life is too short to let this type of thing stand between you and your father or you and a hobby you obviously enjoy.

I'm welling to bet if you showed him some shots of anyone in the forum that you find outstanding, he is going to find something he doesn't like artisically. If he finds something technically then explore that area to see what can be improved...but remember, 99.9% of the "rules" are really suggestions, nothing more.

I am up to March, on my photo processing

Really nice, going to try to look at the rest in a moment but may need to wait until I get home.

wow, congrats on the tms! Are you getting version 1 or 2?

2 and it is on its way.:D I have the sneaky suspician though, I won't get to use it much except in portrait shoots. Curt, I'm sure will use it now instead of the Sigma for theatre.

We had a bit of bad news today that we were not expecting.

So sorry Neil. I know you will do all you can for Norman.

do you guys find yourselves "hiding" people on FB?

Just remember Friend in FB terms is not the same as in real life...most times, it is merely a "contact", nothing more.

Hello, just sneaking in to break up the day a bit.

Lisa....I hide people, delete or unfriend people all the time. I even had to block some people that were claiming to be relatives.....and block some gamers that tried to take the game too far. Don't worry about it....if they are hidden...you won't see their nonsense and it shouldn't bother you.

Lonnie, sorry I haven't been keeping up on your pioneer blog. I so enjoy it when I have time to read it! Anyone interesting lately?

They're all interesting! :p

Ok, really... Hmmm, the best recent ones have probably been Margarita, John Ekel and Catherine Taylor. And, I had fun with Wilbur and Ross, the post that went live today.

We had a bit of bad news today that we were not expecting. Whilst I was away Norman, one of out two 14 year old cats has been playing with his mouth which has caused some soft tissue damage. T took him to the vets last week and they suggested that he may be having some trouble with his teeth, so an appointment was made for him to go in today, and have his teeth looked at and scraped under a general anesthetic, Unfortunately it is not his teeth, they were simply a symptom of a bone tumor in his skull. The vet has removed the teeth that were lose as a result of the tumor. It is on the top mandible below his eye, all we can do is keep our fingers crossed that it is not a fast growing tumor and ensure that we understand what affect it is having on him. The prognoses is not so good :-(

Sorry to hear that!

do you guys find yourselves "hiding" people on FB?

I have a couple of people that I've accepted their friend requests that I don't really know and their posts are crazy (I mean like alcoholic rantings). I'm not talking about anyone in here...lol Anyway, I've hidden them, mostly because I got so much flack for unfriending people...but it makes me wonder does anyone just think FB is so blasted encumbering? I have guilt because I WISH I could unfriend some people but not to hurt them. Just to remove them from my space Hiding seems so silly. I never look again once they are hidden. But I'm also not out to hurt anyone's feelings.

Anyway, just wanted some feedback. Sometimes the stupid politics of FB makes me feel like Jr. High all over again.

I've received a lot of friend requests from people whose names I don't recognize. If Facebook tells me that we have friends in common, I'll look at the list to figure out how I should know them, and it's usually either someone from POTN or the cemetery groups I hang out in. But, if Facebook tells me we have no mutual friends, I just click on the "I don't know this person" button and say "No".

Other than that, I've never hidden or deleted anyone that was already on my list. I hide all of the apps like Farmville, Mob Wars, etc., but not people.

We won't. We get in about 2ish, but we go straight to HWAC to get the testing done.
Then we have plans with one of Lorraine's friends for after.

I'm thinking maybe Thursday morning before we leave? If we have any rejects, we go to the dog park before coming home. Maybe we can meet there. It's a thought.
Would be between 8-9 Thursday morning. We'll be in a hurry to get home though, so we won't have long to visit.

Answering for Heather because she's not here right now... She might be able to get on from work later.

Thursday morning isn't going to work for her (I don't think...) Her shift starts at 0900. Realistically, I can meet up with you just about any time. We want to meet because we have something to give you... And she's already given me the money for the shirts.

That's what gets me. My sister is an artist, she does oils. www.bethbojarski.com (external link) Some of the oddest stuff you'll see on paper, yet dad loves her vision. He's always gone hog wild over her as an artist. I'm in the middle, I mix photo with an artistic flare, something you'd think he's get a kick out of. He loves his artist daughter most out of his 5 kids, she even is becoming more of a Diva these days. It's harder for family to see here then her public.

Your dad is who your dad is, chances are you aren't going to change anything but your own sense of self-worth. Get back to loving your stuff no matter what your dad thinks. Then you'll be able to also develope a relationship with your dad where his opinion is what it is but doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Most importantly, learn from this and don't let that kind of wedge come between you and your kids.

What ever environment your dad was exposed to that has caused him to put on blinders isn't and shouldn't be your environment. Step out of it and move on, the weight lifted will be amazing when you can put this to the side.

Some things will never change in term of how siblings see their parents affections, but your relationship with your father has to be what you want it to be by work. If you don't want to do the work, then I guess it will just be, but when it is too late to work on it you might regret it.

I am the youngest of three, the only girl. I am perfectly aware of my 'favorite' status in my parents eyes, particularly my mother. My parents only saw grades and arts when we were growing up, I was a gifted athlete (believe it or not) and my parents never attended a single game, be it town/school or even regional event. Never took me to any either, always had to find a ride. If I had wanted to take piano lessons form someone in Los Angeles they would have flown me there once a week, but sports? barbaric.

I let it all go, it isn't worth they still cannot see the issue in how they acted. I can't harbor ill will, it just isn't in me or really productive.

so with my photography my mother is gaga over it, but she constantly pics photos that I wouldn't and when I get around to printing her something she ruins off to CVS and has a scanned 5x7 crop of whatever face she likes in it done so poorly that it is blurry and she could care less. drives me nuts, I stopped printing much for her. I told her to stop having the photos copied that it degrades the quality so now she shows me the photos she likes and asks me to crop them too tight...so I sat down with her adn discussed the merits of photos and what they look like after a crop vs. what they look like before and she is slowly but surely getting better... and I am trying to take tighter shots.

Chet, if it is going to eat away at you you have to decide what to do. confront or blow it off...I don't know the answer but I think in some ways you should talk to your dad about it.
