btw. butterfly bushes are considered noxious weeds in Oregon. lol

They can grow to 10ft tall and they do it fast. Mine have grown to about 6ft tall in 2 years...and they draw hummingbirds and butterflies to a yard better than anything...and I have no shots of mine with the leaves. Hold on and I'll go outside and take a quick one...but for now...here are some closeups...

Cool Fungus, Becky :) And I am not Zane *double checks*, nope, not Zane  But it does resemble a Butterfly Bush to me, as well.

It is a budlea(butterfly bush), Becky. It will get HUGE but you can cut it back to the ground every year if you want. Great for attracting butterflies and other nectar collecting insects.

You have a beauty, Lisa! There are white and maroon/deep plum ones at the Butterfly Pavillion.

And...it is now illegal to sell Butterfly Bushes in Oregon...but no where is it specified that they cannot be 'given'

I love them. Bought mine the year of the ban. I like a less cultivated look. And we do trim ours back. They grow heeeuge though...but I love the creatures they bring with them. I just noticed mine are buggy though :|

Cool, thanks, I won't pull it as that is the garden already attracting a hummingbird. :D

I used to often spec budlea 'pink delight' on my designs. It is a good cultivar and the pink is a nice color to stand out in the garden. The dark purple ones sometimes get lost against shadows and the white ones look dirty as soon as the blooms get old.

Budlea often get powdery mildew, as do lilacs, around here but it is only cosmetic in most cases. Then again we live in a swamp.

*not Zane either...but you guys probably noticed that already*

bad snaps and the color is off...they are more purple but you get the idea...

I planted these the year before Kona (he'll be 2 in Oct)...or rather the spring before.

They were weans when I got them. Not even 18in tall. Now they are about as tall as Chris. (I'm going by how I have to look up to them...). They bloom every year as soon as my lilacs are done so it gives the butterflies extra time around here.

They make my neighbor crazy but she planted scotch broom so I have no sympathy for her. LOL

yeah, I liked the white ones too except for that brown look.
