im looking for a bigger bag for my gear, i have a fastpack 250 now, and want to upgrade to the lowepro pro runner 350 for more space. however, with the fastpack and pro runner design, the laptop is stored behind the camera gear...my bag tends to press up against my bacl pretty hard when all my gear is loaded so im just nervous that the weight will be put on the laptop when i walk...will this be an issue? i dont want the weight to crack my casing or screen...or any other damage...any thoughts would be great...

It shouldnt. There is ample padding plus the weight is mostly downward instead of into you. You just felt it more in your back.

I have a lowepro fastpack 350 with storage up against your back. I think that placement is preferable as I'd rather have my laptop there. That said I dont like that bag and need to sell it as I never use it myself. I also have the computrekker from lowepro, with that storage, but its much larger.

im sorry, im having trouble understanding, u want to sell ur 350 because of that reason? yea i like the laptop there for safety but concerned about how much protection is giving with a full bag of equipment while walking

no, dont like the fastpack because of the straps and the fact that its a pretty big bag for less storage than I get with my minitrekker. I just cant imagine having my camera between my back and the laptop. It would seem like you would run the risk of snapping it if any pressure was put on it from the rear with a lens or body serving as a fulcrum

I personally use this backpack. I like it, though I am no expert as far as using the big names like crumpler/thinktank/lowepro.

I've been using the ThinkTank Airport Antidote, which fits a 15" laptop on the outside. I bought it for traveling, and specifically for riding a bike while carrying camera gear and a laptop.

I used to think having the laptop against your back was the best because you'd be carrying the heaviest item closest to your center of gravity, and it would keep the laptop more protected. Now I'm sold on keeping the laptop on the outside of the bag. Camera gear is much heavier than a laptop, so that should be against your center of gravity. Camera gear is also generally broken up into components, which allows a little bit of flex in the pack to conform to your back curvature, especially while riding a bike. Lastly, if it's a camera bag with the ability to carry a laptop, chances are that it will always be carrying camera gear, but only sometimes be carrying a laptop, so I'd rather have the empty space on the outside, rather than against my back.

As far as the gear you can fit... I recently packed two bodies, a 70-200 f/4 IS, an 85 1.8, a 17-55 IS, a 530EX II, all relevant chargers and spare batteries, some filters, and a sandwich, and still had some extra room.

Erm, I don't have much gear I only have 1 extra lens and a flash, but you can fit a lot in there. The little memory foam dividers can be moved/taken away, so you can fit telephotos if you need to. I will take a picture and do measurements for you guys when I can.
