....its better from 1.4-3.5, after that the canon starts to sharpen up and take the lead.

Sooo....the sigma is better. Better build and sharper where you want it.

Thanks for the feedback. Does anyone have any photos taken with the Sigma 50 1/4?

so you're saying a few out of every copy can be bad
bad manufacturer?

Bad copies and consistent back/frontfocusing issues.

The Canon can be easily damaged if the focus tube gets knocked when extened. It is softer at 1.4 and sharpens at f2 and if great from 2.8.

The SIgma is sharper at 1.4 in the middle but softer on the edges than the Canon throughout all apertures. Sigma is better built and as everyone will tell you there have been some front/back focus issues.

That's one of the reasons the hood is there for.

And also the reason the hood is sold separately, eh?

How well does it focus in low light. I shoot weddings so if its not quick I wouldn't use it too much.

Definitely much better, S50 is the best AF 50m lens in canon system. Especially shot with F1.4

sigma all the way. it's sharp at f1.4, comes with hood and pouch, full size HSM motor, BETTER bokeh. canon's bokeh is actually pretty harsh.

canon's cheaper but you gotta buy the hood seperately. soft until f2, has micro usm. the canon is essentially a 50mm f2

my copy of sigma is out of box no focus issue.
