How much weight do you carry on your Think Tank belt?

I'm thinking about getting either a TT Change Up and adding at least 1 lens case or building a custom system starting with the belt. My question is, how much load can you carry on just your waist (no shoulder straps) before it gets to be too much?

I have (or had, am selling it soon) a Steroid Speed belt and I carried the following:

70-200 2.8IS in whip it out
17-40L in lens changer 25 (usually without lens inside)
580EXII + CP-E3 in lightning fast
750ml bottle in lowepro bottle pouch
Canon 50 1.4 and spare batts in chimp cage

1Ds2 with 85L, 1D2n with 17-40L, both on a Cotton Carrier

No problems. Pants didn't wanna go down.

Truely, depends on a$$ size and hips so it doesn't slide down. Mine aren't big enough so I need the suspenders, which also redistributes the load (you want to support it with your shoulders)...

I carry a 100-400, 300 2.8, 2 small lenses in pouches (24-105, 35mm, 16-35 or so), One of the pouches with little stuff in it, then clip a CamelBak with a gallon of water on the shoulder harnesses with carabiners... Thats a max load, pretty heavy, but I can handle it all day (gets better and lighter as you drink the water)...

Its a great system (well except in rain since you can't really put those little covers on the pouches, they are worthless)... In case of rain, I carry a plastic trash bag I can stick everything in to keep it from getting wet...

Why are you ditching it?

I figured that since I now own the 1D2n, 5D, 17-40L, 70-200, 580EXII, that can last me through any event that I am to shoot. No matter what, the 1D2N and 70-200 2.8L IS are stuck together. If I need a belt, it'll be to hold the bottle, flash, and a couple of primes (currently have only one) and batteries. The solution? Sell away ALL modular pouches and thick belts, purchase 2 x Skin 50 and a thin skin belt and roll (:

The single thing that made me want to sell it all was when I bought the Think Tank shapeshifter for cheap (<60% that of retail) which doesn't like the padded pouches that much (they can fit, but not nicely). -Cue Skins product purchase-

I've been considering the skins too, particularly the 75 Pop Down for a 100-400. The only problem I can see with the skins is that it looks like the top flap might get in the way while juggling lenses. I found a local store that had a Skin Strobe in stock and it looked like I could stick the flap inside, against the back wall, essentially making it an open top pouch. Would that work on the Skin 75? My goal is to be able to dismount a lens and drop it somewhere safe without needing a third hand.

I'm leaning toward a TT Change Up which should comfortably hold a 5D, 17-40, and 24-105 (one mounted), then add a 75 series holder/pouch to the Change Up's belt when I need the 100-400 too.

It depends whether you use the Pro Speed Belt or the Steroid Speed Belt. The Steroid can hold a lot more weight comfortably without needing the Pixel Racing Harness. Check my sig for details and ask me anything you want!

How well does the Cotton Carrier work with the TT belt system? I've been thinking about getting one to hold the camera body that I'm not shooting with.

I love my TT belt/modular system for event shooting. I usually carry the large lens drop in, lens changer 50, speed changer, and lightning fast. It varies what I carry but I will usually have my 580 EXII plus CP-E4 in my lightning fast, 28-75 and 430 in my speed changer along with spare batteries (and other misc items), 50mm in LC 50. My 1D3 houses my 16-35 and is the body that I swap other lenses on, and my 1D2 ALWAYS has my 70-200 mounted.

I'd like to add a cotton carrier to hold my second body but would like to know how it works with the TT belt system first.

On the Pro Speed Belt -> Almost impossible to attach due to the belt's thickness.

On the Steroid Speed Belt -> FLAWLESSLY

I'm glad I asked before ordering...I've got the Pro Speed Belt so I will probably end up with a digital holster instead. Thanks for the information!
