I'm working to build a G11 system that provides a light-weight alternative to a DSLR for outdoor sports/racing and nature work.

1. I have a Lensmate adapter set and it is fantastic. I can use any filter available in 72mm (without conversion lenses in place).

2. I have a 2x TC-DC58C and it performs really well, but only at full extension. Anything less produces massive vignetting.

3. I am interested in the 1.4 58D and the .75 58B, but am pretty sure I don't want to bother unless they are functional through the entire zoom range. Can anyone confirm that vignetting will not be an issue on the G11?

I have both the 2x TC and 0.75x WC (58 mm) Canon lenses to use on my G11. They were originally intended for my G9, so there are some compromises on the G11, especially with the 0.75x lens. The 0.75x lens will zoom the entire range on my G9, but not on the G11. You can only use the base, part A, of the Lensmate adapter with the 0.75x lens to achieve the desired 21mm equiv wide angle. This means you pretty much must keep the lens at the widest angle without zooming out, to avoid a lens crash on the attached wide conversion lens.

I also find I have a lot of image problems with the WC lens on my G11 for most situations. It seems to work best for me in a close up or macro mode, like flowers in the foreground, and scene beyond but a little out of focus. John Baker on this forum uses the same lens but with a Chinese clone adapter set, and does not have the same problems. The WC lens works perfectly on my G9 in any zoom range, so it's not the conversion lens.

The newly announced Nikon P7000 has an optional conversion lens to take it from 28mm to 21mm, and it is designed to work on that lens. I wish Canon would do the same for the G11, but they do not have one for that camera. Here's a blog discussing the P7000 as a travel camera, and one of the images is taken with the conversion lens and 21mm result.
