"You're not taking the Kingswood. I've just glad wrapped the number plate."
All these HQ's and Ted Bullpitt nowhere to be seen.
A few from the HQ Enduro
Two one hour races...
Hold on to your hats folks - this could end up anywhere.
...............
Apologies to the many of you who don't understand the title...the Aussies will.
So a quick history lesson.
These cars are an iconic HQ Kingswood (model) Holden of the 70's.
Nearly half a million were built between '71 and '73 with many being used as taxis. They were a dime a dozen and there was seemingly one parked in every driveway of working class Australia. They had the handling capabilities of a house brick - and still do.
In the late 80's someone came up with the "brilliant" idea of a one make racing series - With drum brake rear ends, these cars simply don't stop very well (if at all) and usually after a few laps, it turns to mass carnage.
Due to it's popularity and love/hate the Aussie has for these cars, somehow the category has survived, more amazing is that there are still spare parts available, but becoming more expensive as the years go on.
They are allowed very few modifications to what they were produced with and racing is usually exteremely close.
Also in the early 80's was an extremely politically incorrect, but hillariously funny TV sitcom based around the car - "Kingswood Country".
Ted Bullpitt, the central character, was a bigoted and sexist Aussie factory worker who revered his Kingswood and was full of classic one liners. His favourite when surprised was "Pickle me grandmother".
His nemesis was his daughter's Italian husband, Bruno, "The Bloody Wog" who drove a purple Valiant (made by Chrysler - the opposition and in Ted's eyes, worse than Ford) Making things worse, he had "Fuzzy Dice" hanging from the mirror.
It was a typical clash of cultures. Traditional Aussie Vs Italian Migrant
