I know most of the people on here seem to use the Bee's for Indoor Sports and they appear to have a great following. Does anyone use the Elinchrom D-Lite 4?? Is it comparable ?? would it do as good a job. I like the Sky Port feature and the ability to adjust power without having to get to the lights all the time. I realize at indoor sports they would probably be on full power but I am also thinking about some portrait stuff.

Thanks for your opinions. Cheers SteveP

they have the same bulb pretty much...
I'm in a similar issue. But i think i will be going to the Elinchrom, since its a better long term decision, as well the wireless triggers built in now put it over.
I just wouldn't fire them in a burst mode constantly, if so your going to need alot of bulbs..

I cant find a t.1 on the D-lite4. That would be a pretty big factor...

also, the skyport triggering system isnt nearly as reliable as the cybersync system. just my .02

as far as adjusting power, get there early and get set up... make sure you have enough time to make those adjustments. If you do that, you dont have to worry about changing lighting conditions.

From what I read, the quoted 1/800 flash duration that I see here and there is more like a t.5 at best which means you will have an abysmally slow t.1. If youre planning on using these for sports, I would most definitely go the AB400 route over the Elinchrom (and this is coming from a guy who loves Elinchroms...I just happen to love their 600RXs haha).

FWIW, one of the pluses of the AB800's is they are small and lightweight. As they have spent a lot of time atop 13' light stands at HS basketball games, this makes them much more stable (and safer) than larger, heavier strobes.

The D-Lites have too long of a flash duration for sports.

Elinchrom's website says that t.5 on the 500 light is 1/1558. That means t.1 should be somewhere around 1/500... Personally, Id rather have something faster than that for sports.
