Just a couple of glamor type shots of my favorite electric guitar!

C&C appreciated!

Also, if you have an SG too, please post it here also!

I know how he did it :3

Easy, I can see the reasoning to how he did it.
Anyways, Not trying to derail this topic...

Nice shots, I really do like the look of that guitar.

Awesome guitar and awesome shots! I don't know how you did it btw, but I would love to learn so I could take pictures of my own Les Paul!

Thanks folks! ;)

The floating effect is something that can be done in a number of different ways, from simply using a small riser platform to raise the subject above the background and selecting a camera angle that hides the riser, to doing a more laborious cutting out process in Photoshop of just the subject and then rebuilding the backdrops in Photoshop with gradient fills and various other filters and tools to tone the background to your liking. The latter is how these shots were created because I don't have a large enough infinity screen to do this "in camera" alone.

In Photoshop, the drop shadows can also be created in a multitude of ways too numerous to be properly detailed in this thread. But, all of them involve working with layers and blending them together to form the fished image.

Here's one more example...

In this last one, I used a lens flare effect in Photoshop to create the distant sun.

Cheers!

Your masking is not spot on and its creating a white edge on most of the comps.

I'm not sure if all of them are as bad as you're characterizing them but I did notice a bit of that issue on the last one I posted. The problem seems to occur when I downsize for the web and everything gets crushed down to about 1/4 of its original dimensions and 1/10th of the original file size so fine lines that had some shading graduation to it seem to turn into more noticeable jagged edges.

Can you suggest a work-around for addressing this resizing issue?

Cheers!

Well if its resizing that's causing it there is no problem. As you probably only resized them for upload to here, right?

If you want to know the problem it's not just a white line it's also the darker ones. The issue is that where you are shooting the guitar there are inevitably objects around it. The reflections are either light or dark and its showing up on the guitar body after you mask the surrounds away.

I would actually have gone into photoshop and re-touched the edges to make the reflections way more subdued.

I hope I have explained that in a simple enough manner?

Gotcha!

Thanks for the tips!

I haven't had time to retouch all the shots but did quickly redo the last one as that one bugged me the most as far as the white edges go.

How's this one look now? Better?

I'll see what can be salvaged on the others ones.

Thanks again!

Cheers!

Right!

So you get it now?

I think most will agree its head and shoulders above the original version.

I am glad you took my CC on board so nicely. I had the same problem shooting my JS1000 Ibanez and it was driving me crazy too. I eventually shot it in my home theater which has a lot of black in it, including the ceiling, which is actually acoustic carpet. This just about eliminated light colored reflections.

I was trying to find my shot but I recently had one of my HDD's meet its maker, so rule of averages says its on that one. LOL
