I think the 5D's sync speed is 1/200 not 1/250 like the 1.6x crop bodies (40D, etc.). I have trouble using my RF-602 wireless triggers at 1/200th so I have to shoot my 5D at 1/160th.

The sync speed for a 5D is 1/200. Also, remember that sync speed is for a wire connected flash with no propagation or processing delay.

Radio triggers have some propagation and process delay. This is why often there is an additional bit of shutter speed reduction. Cyber Syncs are among the better triggers in this regard.

Also, 1/200 to 1/250 is much less than a stop of difference more on the order of 1/4 stop.

The sync issue actually gives your image a little bit of a contrasty look.

Yep, as stated by HeyMeng -> the 5D flash synch speed is at 1/200th of a sec.

To overcome this issue, you should activate the HSS (High-Speed-Synch) function on your flashgun. I think you need to depress the [+] & [-] buttons simultaneously. (I believe that this particular Canon 540ez has this feature).

However, I do not know anything about the triggers that you are using and whether they can support HSS. You might just want to try the flashgun directly on the camera hot-shoe first, with the Flash set to HSS. You can then try using the radio-triggers and experiment with synch-speed combos.
