you still haven't stated a budget...might as well do that when you are bumping the thread...you mention the 55-250mm being in your budget...and then bring up an L lens that costs 2-3X as much...

how much do you want to spend...what are you looking to do?...if you're looking for landscape shots i think there are better options than the 70-200L...

sorry, i thought i posted that. 700$ is ideal, but I could save is needed.
looking to do - I do mostly pics of my kids and family. this vacation will have me wanting to do landscapes, but normally I don't do them.

It's easy to spend other people's money, but in all honesty I would suspect the 18-55 and 50mm should cover general scenery and vacation snaps. If you really want to spend some money, something like a 15-85 could be a nice upgrade.

i think a 15-85mm would be a good one lens solution...do you find yourself wanting a lot more reach than the 55mm you currently have?...do you care about changing lenses?...

yes, in particular at the beach w. kids or at friend's weddings. not enough reach in those situations.

For that money, you cannot beat the newer 18-55 IS (image stabilzer) and the 55-250 IS. Great combo and you can definitely find them both for 300 used.

you can get the 55-250mm refurbished from adorama for $200...

and for the 18-55mm IS...your best bet might just be ebay
