Anyone knows what OEM brand this is (external link) or if it's as good build and operation wise as the Canon original ?

Thank you very much
Bob

The main difference is that the original canon BG-E7 grip has a magnesium chassis, to match the construction of the 7d body. Weather sealing is also better on the genuine grip, many third party grips don't have the hi density foam gasket around the battery compartment door. Also many don't have the textured rubber material on the battery compartment door that matches the finish on the camera body.

I find the genuine grip more solid and has a much higher build quality (superior engineering plastics used) than my phottix pro grip, but this comes at a price

Hi Bob,

The distributor is listed as MeinFoto - which is a German-based (Berlin) company.
The website is in German - so I do not know whether the listed products are actually of German origin or whether they source from the Far East or other.

I am sure someone else will be able to help you further.... sorry if this doesn't help!

It kinda looks like a Phottix version.
lannes is right. I looked into one of them before I got my Canon version.
Biggest difference is build quality; the knockoff is all plastic & little if any sealing.

My deciding factor was also the fact that it was a non Canon approved accessory & installing it would violate my camera's warrantee.
Now I''m not saying it would happen, but I am not going to chance damaging my new $1600 camera over saving a $100 or so on a grip.

Besides, you may luck out- my local Henry's store had a deal - buy the body & get the Canon BG-E7 grip for $99.
