I am using key-ring style hoops to attach clip on shoulder straps to my camera. Any better hardware for doing that? This seems to work OK, but it just doesn't seem substanative enough.

I tried BlackRapid strap and wasn't thrilled by it. I like the simplicity of just attaching a shoulder strap. Don't like neck straps at all.

Thanks.

Camera manufacturers used to use small split rings like that, in the days when film cameras had lugs better suited to split rings. The Canon strap attachment points work better with 3/8" webbing or the Optech Pro Loop type ends.

I have used those split rings for years .. they just take some paint off .. I never liked the neck strap ..

...which is why I recommended against their use with Canon dSLRs. Anyone intending to sell their camera on the used market has a less pristine camera, devaluing it on the used market. If you don't care to take the value loss, it is fine.

you could use the optech adapt-it (external link)

or if you want it to be a bit longer, the optech utility loop (external link)

Great options - thanks.

The Adapt-its look ridiculously simple but pretty much perfect for my needs.

I just took bits off the strap of my deceased S1IS and made a figure-8:
