Thanks! Yeah it sure was! I hike up the hill rather than stay on the parking level so that I don't get the Golden Gate in the frame. It's not an uncommon occurrence that it is either to hazy, foggy, or too windy to get a good shot. Many times I have gone up there to find nothing to shoot

Well, you caught that on a great day and at a great time! The City looks beautiful when it's clear during the golden hour!

OK, wow, I grew up in California and lived for a while in the Bay Area, but never explored this area -- were you as far as the Point Bonita Lighthouse when you took this? It's such an awesomely different point of view, very unique!

Yeah it definitely takes some degree of luck to get the right day, but keep going up there and you'll get it! :) IMO the city always looks great from Hawk Hill if there's no fog and haze :P

You never explored this area?! Next time you visit the Bay, you must venture up to Hawk Hill! it's just such a great vantage point! Point Bonita is actually about two miles west and about eight hundred feet below Hawk Hill, but you can get some spectacular shots of the city and the bridge from there! Thanks a bunch for you're kind words :D

Yeah, I've been trying to nail down the perfect conditions. I thought we had it the last time we were there because it was actually clear and the breeze was blowing from the east. So, the City was nice and clear. then as the sun started to set into the golden hour, the wind changed directions and brought the coastal fog over Twin Peaks so fast that the City disappeared before the sunset completed lol

I'll keep trying. I only live a little over an hour away from Hawk Hill. Thanks for sharing your image. It's given me inspiration!

Keep on going up there! I too live an hour away down near Fremont and I'm always looking at the Lawrence Hall of Science webcam or the WebMarin webcam to see if the conditions are right. There's a perfect example of San Francisco weather for you, sunny one second, foggy and windy the next. Thank you for looking! :D

Well you probably won't be able to just use one lens depending on the distance you are from your subject. For example the photo I posted was taken about five miles away from San Francisco and I was zoomed to 200mm on a full frame camera. If i was shooting cityscapes from inside of the city 28mm might seem a little tight. Again it all depends on the situation and how far away from the subject you are, so having more that one lens or focal length would be advised. Good luck with your final project!
Have a look at my most recent portfolio on San Francisco, which includes many cityscapes here: http://www.flickr.com …e/sets/72157629699183011/ (external link)
