SEO questions...

For the link on my signature I put it as Kansas City Photographer (the words i'm trying to direct google towards to find me) and then that is linked to my website. If I post more and comment more on other posts on this forum, will that help with my SEO at all?

I also use lightroom to create a simpleviewer gallery for my pictures from a shoot. (you'll have to go to my blog to know what i'm talking about if i'm not making any sense. Just click on a picture when you get there and a gallery will pop up). My questions is, is that like not helping at all compared to if I post each individual picture that has the picture titled, "Kansas City Photographer?"

Thank you for any advice!

I recently wrote a short article called, SEO for the Photographer (external link). You might read that and implement some of the suggestions.

I think your home page looks to 'spamy' for my tastes. I can see why, but I think you should re-write some of it to make it more people-friendly, not Google/Yahoo-ish....if that's a word...LOL!

To your question (I think), adding a link on each of your forums can help. Also, adding a title like '[Mr. Smiley] Kansas City Baby Photographer' can help you, but just remember try to write for people, not rankings. Hope that makes sense.

Thank you for your advice.....one more question...when i'm renaming my photo's and putting them on my blog, is it smart to post all of the photo's like most people do, or would I get by ok by using simpleviewer like I have been? Its so much easier to use the simpleviewer, but if you think it will help alot with my seo to post each picture individually because the photo's are renamed, then i'll start doing that.

I've never used SimpleViewer, so I can't comment on that. I really don't think it's going to add much (SEO) to re-name your images. I personally have numbers for my photos in my gallery (01-020.jpg etc) and I use a database. I do use a alt/title tags for my images though.

From what I've read and heard on SEO (and go listen to episode #145 of the podcast This Week in Photography) the title of your photos really does make a difference. Even if it's just a numbered series like High School Track and Field 1, 2, etc.

I was wondering if it mattered because if you type in kansas city photographer in google, and then you click on images, one of my pictures shows up on the 3rd page (used to be the 1st). But if you try to find my website....well I have no idea what page number i'm on, i've never tried to find out past like page 10. My biggest problem I face is that i'm competing against a TON of photographers here...they are everywhere. So anyways, thats why I wondered if it would help even more if I started posting each picture individually instead of using simpleviewer, since simpleviewer is flash and I know google doesn't like flash.

If you're selling specific photographs (landscape, wildlife etc), then you should re-name your photos (I haven't YET). But if your just a wedding/portrait etc photographer, then I wouldn't worry about it. I would think most people would not be searching for images, just on the web. But, that's just me.
