I was playing around tonight some and when I loaded my pictures on the computer I saw I had a lot of hot pixels. Is there a way to get rid of them or do I have to deal with them?

Do a manual sensor clean with the lens off, and body cap on. turn on for 30 seconds, turn off and re attach the lens, shoot to see it if has improved

Otherwise you are stuck with PS CSx to remap the hot pixels for you

I think the latest version of UFRaw can get rid of them, remembers their location and takes care of them, so you don't have do the same work for every image. BUT, I haven't tried it yet.

edit:

"01/04/2010 - UFRaw-0.17 released, based on DCRaw v 8.99.

Lens distortion corrections using lensfun. This feature is now fully implemented and enabled by default.
Added a despeckling/denoising algorithm to solve issues with images taken under very difficult lighting conditions, like deep sea diving. It may be useful in other situations too. Patch by Frank van Maarseveen.
Enabled hot pixel elimination by default.
Calculate live histogram from working color-space instead of display color-space. Calculate live histogram from cropped area only. Based on patches by Konrad.
Added auto-crop option.
Allow upto 400% zoom. "

I have a dumb question. I just noticed on the lens I shot this with has some "shiny spots" like dust but it will not come off with the blower. Could the coating on the lens, I assume there is one, be starting to come off and making it look like hot pixels?

tried to take a picture but the only other lens I currently have is a 70-200 and I can not get it to focus on the spots. :(

Relax, the lens spots are normal.

The outside world is full of crud, which can touch the lens and create the marks you and all the rest of us get all the time. After blowing it to clear the dust and grit, I use a lens cleaning fluid and clean cloth to remove the spots.

With lots of usage you should schedule times to really give your camera and lenses a good cleaning. Can't control the elements...

What is a decent Lens cleaning fluid? I took a micro fiber cloth and gently wiped the lens and they are still their. Just thought that during the long exposures the spots could be coming up and looking like hot pixels.

I will see if I can get a shot off my cell phone camera and post it.

The fluid I use is nothing special. I bought it with the cloth from my local photo shop. It seems slightly soapy but I really cannot tell you whats in it.

Just wiping with a dry cloth never seems to shift the worst of the spots, but they are quick enough to remove using the fluid, but do get the dust and grit off before rubbing at the glass.

Spots on your lens won't show up in photos as sharp specks, but they can show up as blurry objects if shooting into the sun, and if your lens is really dirty it can affect contrast.

My camera phone is not working out. The spots look like metal shavings, but they are not. I will see if I can get my tamy 17-50 back from my dad to use and take a better shot.

Thanks all for the help so far. It is not affecting picture quality that I can see, but noticed them the other day and then though it might be that in the picture and hot hot pixels.
