Paulsko is a local duo- Quickly becoming a legend in the greater Wilkes-Barre music scene.

They were kind enough to ask this old guy (they are my son's age...) to come out to a show- the launch of the summer tour. I may not have attended, until they reminded me to bring the camera....

The boys-

Vocals- A. Potsko- hence the band's name...

Getting into things-

More passion-

The fans enjoying the show as well-

Unbridled excitement-

Very low light- I bounced a flash off the ceiling and walls for most of these. As usual, for the first time shooting a new type of event, I started out using a zoom (24-70) as I wanted the flexibility. The better shots came when I switched to the primes though- (50 & 85mm 1.

. It never ceases to amaze me how the sub $100 50mm 1.8 will often outperform the $1,000+ 24-70 2.8.....

C&C are welcome!

Nicely done this is a very challenging shoot with low light & lots of clutter to avoid.
I shoot bands now and then in a mall and its quite hard to get a shot that pops cluttered background make it hard and mic stands always get in the way, You have done a great job I'm sure the band will love them.

Thanks Accesser-

They were playing in front of a wall of windows that looked out on the street. There were a few lights on outside, so I was trying to work with them in the background to create some interest. The mike stands were something I didn't anticipate- they ended up throwing some odd shadows as well as blocking my view.

Fun challenges though. Thanks again for your comments!

At ISO 3200 and a slower shutterspeed, you'd have captured more ambient light. I think that would ave helped the shots; they are too "flashed" now IMO.

Your opinion is appreciated- I was finding it hard to capture a crisp image as I let more ambient in, so I was lighting almost exclusively with the flash. Since I was shooting the band primarily, and there was little background for them, it seemed to work out in my mind. Some of the crowds shots, perhaps I could have let more ambient light in though.

Thanks-

I recently got a kick out of some christmas photos you posted so I looked for other posts by you and found these. 2, 3, and 5 are great in my opinion, especially in a small place. Shadows like the ones from those mic stands look annoyingly unavoidable, you can't always carry around a big umbrella.

Unbridled excitement - nice catch. I notice a theme in your threads of possibly non-serious final images, I like this, you should become famous for the final shots of your posts :D
