There are 3 different brand and choice which i couldn't make choice between at all.

Tamron 17-50 F2.8 Non-VC
Sigma 17-70 F2.8-4 OS
Canon 17-85 F4-5.6 IS - USM

Those 3 lenses has approximately the same prize.
However the their lengths aperture sizes and additional features confuse me.

I've searched a little about these three and read that under 1/60 shutter speed it is not easy to take photo with tamron due to lack of VC (sounds exaggerated, right?)

Sigma has a nice length with nice aperture size and also has OS feature. However people are concerned about quality of the sigma lenses, that's an another concern for me too.

Canon has a good length too with USM and IS it makes sense but here the problem is aperture size, it looks like not decent to catch DOF effect and also not convenient for low light conditions.

Now i wonder that if the shutter speed issue is true for tamron, can i patch up this high shutter speed necessity with wide aperture size ?

As an owner of the Tamron I like it alot. The 2.8 helps alot but I'm not satified with the 50 mm reach. I recently purchased the new Canon 15 to 85 and like it alot. The IQ is very good and the additional reach of the 85 mm makes it an ideal walk around lens.

is there a question in there?
If you have the 18-55IS kit lens try turning off the "IS" and see if it makes a difference. I found that the IS or "VC" at those focal lengths and low shutter speeds did not make any difference for me so I went with the Tamron 17-50 2.8 non-vc

Izooml, I'm in exactly the same boat. After a lot of checking around, I gathered that the non vc is actually sharper than the vc version of the Tamron and is the sharpest of the 3 lenses. As it is also the cheapest of the three, it seemed like a no brainer. I ordered one and get it in two days. If it's subpar, I will upgrade...
