June 18, 2010 - First Moon shot (T1i + 55-250)

Here's my first attempt with the T1i and nifty-two fifty.

Settings:
AV priority @ F8
Focal Length @ 250mm
Exposure @ 1/30 sec
ISO @ 100
Handheld with IS on

Minor light processing with default sharpening
1:1 Crop

Good first try but I think you could get a sharper image if you'd use a tripod or increase your iso and shutter speed, here's my take a while back with the same camera and lens. I find it really hard to get perfect focus and a good image at 250mm 1/30s, almost impossible. I think your image is very good for handheld 1/30s.

1/200s, ISO 200, F/8,250mm, a little PS USM

Thanks! I'll try out your setting on a waxing or waning gibbous moon on my incoming tripod this week! The weather here isn't looking too optimistic though..

Is it me or does the moon seem to tilt? I'm looking at the orientation of the 4 large circle "black craters".
