In the first, the flames have blown out highlights where as in the second I'm wanting to see more red, although it is a pretty good shot and the better by far of the two.

I agree the first one isnt all that great but those were the 2 best out of the 50 or so i cook :-\ lol these are my first real shots with this camera too, still trying to understand how things work. based on this critique from this thread, and my sunset one, im guessing i need to expand my artistic eye Canon EOS 50D | 18-135 | 50mm | Flickr

Shooting at or close to ground level, finding the best side, and filling the screen has given me the best results.
