I've had my 24-105 for over a month now. I love the IQ, the build, size, and weight of the lens. Its a great walk around lens, BUT I find myself consistently shooting the lens wide open.

I love the focal length on the crop sensor, but would like better background seperation.

I too have had the 24-105 for almost a month now, and agree that a larger aperture would be great. That's why I'm looking at adding one or two primes, which will give me better low light capabilities and background separation.

I see that you have the 50/1.4, don't you like that lens as an addition to your all-round 24-105?

If that lens came in an f/2.8 version, it might be the best selling lens Canon ever made.

24-70L or the 17-55 IS?
the 17-55 is the walkaround of choice for crop sensors.

Also consider a Sigma 50 f/1.4

Pick up a used 5D. The focal length range is even better and f/4 is much less limiting for DOF control on FF.

That's true, I just wonder how fat it would be, considering the 24-70L already being a "brick"

I'm not interested in the 17-55. The kit lens was 18-55 and I found myself needing more reach over the wide angle. I do like how it is fast AND has IS. I'm considering the 24-70. Its pricier (which is why I got the 24-105), but shooting at f/2.8 might be what I need in a zoom. I might miss the extra reach though.

I don't need another 50 ;)

That's an idea. I'll look into it.

I like the 50 f/1.4 in addition to the 24-105, but I find myself pulling the 50 out of the bag over the 24-105. Its not a huge problem, but I wish I could get more control out of the 24-105.

The 24-105 takes on a whole new life on a FF camera.

Agreed. I never liked the 24-105L (or 24-70L) on APS-C, but it really shines on FF.

Keep in mind that when you go for the FF option, the field of view of your 24-105 will change compared to what you're used to. It will be like having a 15-65 lens on your APS-C.

No worries. I'm not planning on going FF, just said I'd look into it ;)

You've got a beautfull 50mm... That should be pretty good in seperating your subject from the background.

Maybe add a tele(zoom) if reach is the problem?
