I am attending a pro wrestling event, but the arena policy says I can not bring inside a lens longer than 3 and 1/2 inches. I was just wondering which lenses meet that requirement? I would be more interested in primes since they don't extend, or zooms that don't extend also. Any distance would be good right now since I haven't decided on floor or lower bowl tickets yet. Thanks!

I have a feeling what they're trying to do is prevent the use of any sort of pro gear. I wouldn't be surprised if they tell you no camera on the day, even if you're sporting a shorter lens.

Generally, if its an arena they will be VERY strict. I remember once before a Heat game spending about 45 minutes trying to convince that my 17-55 didn't have any more reach than an 18-55. But they simply kept pointing to their picture of a Rebel with an 18-55 on it and saying No. Save yourself the trouble. If it says 3.5" then thats your limit, and lately some venues have been stressing a "single lens" rule.

The NBA has made it a league policy.

NFL, MLB, MLS, and the NHL are much more lax in their restrictions. But a good rule of thumb is bring a print out of what they say on their website with you and a tape measure if you wanna be cute.

Another tip: leave the vertical grip at home. You can spend 20minutes convincing its just a battery grip and not a power winder to no avail. I spend 15 one day at a Panthers game showing to an old woman (how they think an old woman should be in "security" is beyond me) that my grip on my 40D was a Battery Grip... 10 of those minutes pointing to the label right on the front that says BG-E2N Battery Grip. I of course got it in... but it took patience, perseverence and debating ability to make it happen.

Not the case in my experience. I was turned away at a Bears game in Chicago due to my 17-55 Lens being over 6". After walking in I noticed so many people with slr+kit lenses, annoyed the hell out of me.

I wonder if they will allow a friend of yours, to walk in ahead, carrying a long lens, without it being attached to a camera. Then you bring your camera in with a short lens. Once you're inside, swap out the lenses.

If your allowed to take drinks in (most places don't allow it), get a friend to go in front of you with the 70-200 f/4 thermos, then just walk behind him carrying your 70-200 2.8 IS without collar and pretend to take a sip out of it.

Your best bet is probably the 100mm 2.0 with TC.

Stick the 70-200 in your underwear. Even if you get caught, you'll still look pretty impressive.
