Hi everyone,

I'm going to spend a week hiking around Glacier NP at the end of July. My current gear includes a Rebel XT (350d), Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 and Canon 100mm f/2.8. I'd like to rent a few lenses to take with me and I'm looking for your advice. I'm thinking of renting a Canon 10-22 and the 70-200 f/4L. Any thoughts or advice??

Thanks,
Seth

We love our 100-400L lenses. With those, you like don't need to take the 100mm. I just got a 10-22 this weekend for a 7D. I shot a little with it; great wide angle for small sensor body!

So with the 10-22 on the short end, and a 100-400 on the long end....one good middle range zoom will fill out the kit very well.

Just make sure you carry a good tripod and ball head. Don't for a moment think you can handhold well enough...none of us can. ;)

If you see a guy with a big Lowepro camera backpack on. Stop me and say hi!!

Last year I used 10-20 a lot. 24-105 sometimes. 100 macro a little. 100-400 a little.

Will be there again this year from July 14 thru August. Staying near West Glacier just outside the park and a little time on the East side to see Iceburg Lake.

Be sure to get Bear spray before hiking. Probably will not need it, but they say its the best insurance. Usually lots of people around that time of year and I know I can out run someone!!!:lol:.

Have fun take lots of pics.

Those are nice lenses for Glacier. I would swap the 70-200 for a 100-400 though if you shoot wildlife.
So rent:

10-22
100-400

You will want to the 100mm for landscapes across the huge lakes of Glacier, and your 17-50 should cover most situations. When hiking, take the 17-50 and 100-400. If you do not want to try the 100-400, The 70-300 IS is a very nice lens for Glacier, or try the 70-200 IS with a teleconverter.

The Canon 55-250 IS would also be a very nice Glacier lens, but slightly short for the megafauna.
