DxOMark is now rating lens/body combinations:

I've always found what DxOMark has been doing for sensors very interesting, while being sure to take their results with a grain of salt. Here, ratings are done numerically on five categories (resolution, transmission, distortion, vignetting, and CA), and they come up with scores by use case (e.g. portrait, sports, etc.). For me at least, things like CAs, vignetting, and distortion are no longer a big deal, since they are easily corrected in PP nowadays. Resolution, on the other hand, cannot be, so it would be nice to have that weighted more in the overall score.

Regardless, I did a quick search, comparing the 50mm f/1.8, f/1.4, and the 17-55mm f/2.8 on a 7D body. Surprisingly (or not), the 50mm f/1.8 had the overall best "peak score". Kind of like slrgear.com, you can also see the resolution profile of each lens, which is nice.

What are your thoughts?

Another element of DxOMark Peak Score — part of its uniqueness as an image quality evaluation ranking system — is that we built it with the consideration that some camera flaws can be partially or completely corrected by digital processing (embedded in the camera, or performed by third-party software).

^ From DxOMark's website. It looks like they do consider that certain aberrations can indeed be easily corrected for. However, it's unclear how this applies to the generation of a "peak score".

I've always liked their data for camera bodies, but now this is going to be information overload. If you're looking for very specific data though, it'll be good to have. They probably already have most of this data, because it's already collected and built into the modules for their DxO software which auto sharpens, auto corrects distortion, auto corrects falloff, LCA, etc. It's very very good software.
