Photos from this past weeks testing and race weekend at Castle Combe Circuit.

All photos were taken with my EOS 7D and Sigma 150-500mm lens. This was my first outing with the 7D for motorsport and I'm very pleased with its performance. The exposure is generally very accurate.

However, I noticed that the focus would sometimes lock on to the car behind the car at the front. I used AF Point expansion, medium slow AI Servo tracking sensitivity with continuous AF track priority.

Any suggestions on how to avoid this would be appreciated.

Nice shots, with your focus problem try using center point-A1servo single shot, that is turn off all your focus points except for the center one. Thats what I use on my 400D and have no problems.

Nice selection of shots.

Couple of comments though - on #3, the colour temperature looks a bit warm. Might just be this monitor though.

On #5 It's a shame the focus is on the blue car, as the red one is a bit of a distraction with it being not the focal point - as you've mentioned in your post.

Thanks for the comments.

Ingsy, No.3 is slightly warm. (Its about 5700 degrees kelvin were as daylight is 5200 according to Capture One 5 white balance.) I hadn't noticed it until you mentioned it. All the photos taken at that time in the afternoon have the same colour temperature.
Regarding No.5 I agree but I think that the black Subaru is more in focus. I will try using a single focus point next time and see if it helps.

Tim
