lens. Which SLIM 77mm CP is best for these two wide angle lenses? B+W has an MRC and a Kaesemann (sp?). Which is best? Is there another brand I should consider? (Am trying to avoid vignetting on the 10-22.)

I used the Hoya Pro1 for around three years and I was very impressed by it.

It's not cheap, and I rarely use it, but I have the B&W slim filter for my 10-22.

Used the Hoya Pro1 D with my 10-22 for over 2 years. Love it. Use it now on my 17-40.

Great prices ($111 for 77 mm) at the website www.2filter.com (external link)

Awesome folks to deal with and ship fast.

Thanks

If you go with a B+W F-Pro CPL filter (non-slim version), it won't cause any vignetting on either the 10-22 or the 17-40L. Plus, the filter will have brass rings instead of aluminum. Some Hoya CPL's have been known to come apart unexpectedly, and they also have a reputation for being very difficult to clean. Just several things to consider before plunking down your money.

The FOV on an ultrawide is about 106 degrees. Considering that a CPL works best at 90 degrees to the sun, you will get some uneven coloration in the sky when shooting very wide. This isn't necessarily bad, and the 'look' will totally depend on the composition and the compositional elements present in the frame. Plus, you could always work around it with camera angles and such.

I bought the BW Kaeseman 77 CPL originally for use on the 100-400. Just got the 10-22 last weekend and am using the CPL on it also.

+1 on this filter, a little pricey, but you get what you pay for.

This is common with all UWA and polarizers, as Argyle said, it depends on the composition, sun angle, etc.. I noticed it mostly at 10-14mm and above that very little if at all. I mostly used this lens at 14-20 anyway so it was of little consequence.
