5dii AF question

Two questions on AF point.

1. In P or creative mode (Av, Tv, or Manual), when I select all 9 AF points, I don't see one light-up when it achieves focus.

It does this in Full AUTO.

Is this normal? It's almost impossible to tell which AF point was used.

2. When I select an AF point (in creative mode), it never beeps. It just blinks when AF is achieved.

If you use Servo AF, there's no confirmation of achieved focus. But the focus confirmation light will blink if it can't lock.

Thank god, you can turn off the beep with a menu setting. But many of these settings aren't available when using the green box mode.
Or it can be the same answer as above. You can't select Servo AF in green box mode. It will always be the "don't know which AF mode to use" setting, aka AI Focus. When in servo AF, there's no beep either.

I'm in One-Shot (the top selection).

Example, on Av mode if I set the AF point to all 9 points and choose 2 objects of different distance. Object 1 a clock with some writing on the buttons about 3 feet away. Object 2 a light switch about 5 feet away. It will be obvious in the viewfinder which one is in focus.

I half-press the shutter and move it around so the left point is on object 1. Object 2 is blurry in the background. It's locked on object 1 because if I re-center focus doesn't change. However; it didn't blink and no beep when focus was attained. I expected the left point to blink as focus was attained.

I half-press again and move it around so the center point is on object 2 and it locks focus on it. Again, no beep and no blink.

In a real situation; this renders the 9 point AF pretty useless since I can't easily tell what (if anything) is in focus.

Note: I reset all setting to Factory Defaults.

Is it defective? Can anyone else repeat this on their 5Dii and tell me if theirs works like every other Canon I've used (ie: the AF point that's locked will blink when lock is attained)?

Thanks for your help. It's still under warranty but I don't want to waste a trip to Canon if this is normal.

I never use all 9 points, but I just switched it over and tested it for you. The active focus point flashed red.
