date code on box??

are date codes shown on the box? is it possible to know the date code from a brand new lens without taking out the lens from the box?

The date code is printed on the lens itself (where the lens mounts to the camera).

While all "L" lenses have date codes, all "Arc Form Drive" consumer lenses have date codes as well.

Here are some older, out of production Arc Form Drive lenses with date codes.
(28-70, 35-70, 35-105, 35-135, 50 f/1.8 MkI, 70-210, 100-200, 100-300, etc)

And these are still in production:
(24 f/2.8, 28 f/2.8, 35 f/2, 50 f/2.5, 135 f/2.8SF, etc)

Old 35-105 with date code:
