Went for a long weekend in the Boundary Waters. I didn't feel like lugging along a lot of camera equipment, so all I took was my G10. Interestingly, met some other photographers along a portage who were carrying a lot of Nikon gear, including a 500mm. At our campsite we had some fun birds like a boreal chickadee, winter wren, and a nesting pair of pileated woodpeckers. I didn't bother trying to get any shots of those, and instead worked on more wide angle views.

Thanks, the G10 is a nice little camera. I felt like I could do something more than just snapshots, but not have to be burdened with all the gear, which I'd have to carry in a canoe and portage between lakes.

Yes, plenty of loons, eagles, a boreal chickadee, pileated woodpeckers nesting at our campsite. Also different warblers, TONS of white-throated sparrows who sang constantly from 4:30 am when it got light, to 10:30 pm. Also saw moose. No bears invaded the campsite, thankfully!

Definitely worth a trip! I went with a local outdoors group and it's nice to have people who are experienced and have the right gear. This was my second time there. Last time it was mid-May and we were snowed on!

Nice photos Liz. Especially like that last one! It's been (quite) a few years since I've been to the BWCA. As in before they added the extra "W." :)

Foggy Morning and Canoe are absolutely beautiful photographs. I'm very impressed with your results from a G10 at 400 ISO, any noise reduction in post?

Thanks, yes I did do some noise reduction. Pretty much all the low light shots were shot in raw, so I did NR in DPP. But overall the noise wasn't bad to start with. Can't go wrong with such beautiful scenery!

Love the BWCAW, spent many, many days/nights in that region while living in Minnesota.

I think you've caught the essence of the area very well.

Q: Do you regret not bringing the DSLR gear?
