A friend of mine has a 70-200mm f/2.8L IS that she wasn't using so she let me borrow it to see if I would be interested in purchasing it. I have an interest so I asked her what she wants for it several times and she keeps saying for me to make an offer. I don't know what a fair offer would be for it. I looked around a bit on here and on KEH but I wanted to get some opinions. The lens is a Mark 1 which should make the prices pretty different than the mostly Mark 2 market I have found. The lens is in perfect shape and has everything that came with it. Thanks in advance!

I would not pay more than $1450 for the Mark I model personally.. I have seen them sell used for that or lower on here, but the average is about $1450-1550 it seems.

I would offer $1450 myself. Brand new with 8% Bing and 3% Mr. Rebates you can get it for $1653 so $200 off used seems fair to me...

Cool, I also forgot to mention that the date code is 2007, does that really make any difference? Also, where can one purchase a new one for that price Invertalon?

Ok guys, I took your advice into consideration and I offered her $1200 and she said Ok. Looks like I am the proud owner of a 70-200 f/2.8L IS!!!

wow, great deal. i've seen a few go on CL for that but you have to be really fast to get those deals. plus, being your friend, you should be able to get the full history behind it.

Yeah, she used it once since she bought it. Has a filter on it since day one, has the hood and tripod mount. She is just an hobbyist with a ton of nice stuff and this one just kinda sat around. I guess I can update my signature haha.

Great price, I just paid $1500 for mine two months ago.

Awesome lens and even though its my biggest and heaviest, its on my camera more than any other.

Nice! Yeah it is very heavy, I will have to get used to it for sure. I also have an 85mm (the 1.8) and now that I am overlapping a bit do you think itd be wise to get rid of the 85 and get something in a different focal range?

If thats all you have, yes......you are going to want something wider than the 70mm.

I would go with a 35mm if you are looking for a prime to replace the 85.

If not the 24-70 would be an obvious compliment.

How much is a 35mm prime going for these days? The 24-70 would be perfect, I would like to see if I can work out a trade plus cash (on my end) for a 24-70 or a 17-40.
