I just got back from vacation in Canada that was centered around a major family reunion.

When my mom was visiting us earlier this year, she saw the calendar I made for my wife for Christmas that had 12 pictures of our two kids, one for each month of the year. She loved it and asked that I make her one of all her grandkids for this coming Christmas. She has 11 grandkids and I rarely see them all so I had to make best use of the time to get shots of kids I don't often see. Here are a few that I snapped then and in the last few weeks/months.

1. Abigail

3. Asher

As you can see, I've focused mainly on B&W or desaturated looks. It seems to be most popular and it does handle the sometimes less-than-optimal backgrounds I have been forced to shoot against at times.

Comments, critique, and criticism all welcomed.

Very nice images and the processing works on these. The eyes in #1 are killer.... however, I'm guessing grandma would prefer color shots?

She probably wouldn't want all of them in B&W/desaturated. I will ultimately do a mix of color and B&W/desaturated photos. I already have a number of really nice color shots to pick from as well.

What a nice thing for her to have. Interesting comment about how she would probably prefer color. My mom, who is 83, gets annoyed when I send her black and white pics. She was a model in her you ger days and worked in a photo studio retouching and adding color to photographs, when black and white was all there was. She thinks that black and white photography is stepping back in time and why would I chose it over color. Interesting perspective....

I wonder of the two of Asher - which is more of his true personality. You'd almost think they were two different kids just because of the very different expressions and hair styles. I'd pick whichever one matches him best. I agree about the color comments. I'd do 100% color for the calender - or maybe you could do two shots of each child for each month, and do one in color, and one in black and white (two different photos)

He's definitely a fun-loving guy but in #3, you can still tell that he has some mischief in him. Maybe a bit of Don Juan in him...?

For those wondering about maybe doing color shots instead of B&W/desaturated, here's a color shot of #1. Let me know if you like it better.

The eyes in #1 are breathtaking. In my opinion this is one of those rare shots that lends itself better to a black and white conversion than colour. Very nice!
