Where to get photos printed

Where do you folks get your photos printed?

I had spent a considerable amount of time in Photoshop (which I not that good at) got my photos looking the way I wanted. Took my files in to have them printed (three different places) only to have them "FIXED" by the employees! Parts were missing due to their cropping, horizontal lines not straight, colors not right, feet and heads cut off.....frustration.

Any place online that will print what they get and ship them out?

Please,
Brenda

I use mpix. Are your edits at 4x6 already? Mpix recommends 250 dpi.

I print all mine at home - Canon Pixma Pro 9000.

I have heard good things about Costco (especially if you get to know the staff)

I use Smugmug. In a pinch, the local CVS etc will do. Keep in mind the cropping issue is on you as well. If you PP a photo in one size or format, say 8X10, and then go to the local CVS and ask for 4X6 prints, there will be problems... Color correction too. They may look like what you want on your monitor, but does your monitor show color accurately?

I've been very happy with Costco. I order them online (Lightroom actually has a Costco export plug-in!) and pick them up at the store the next day.

Me, too.
In my area, Costco rocks! Post #10 & #18. Note that these are 2005 threads & I haven't had any problems with them in 4 years.

My Costco really does great work for the price. As someone who has printed my own color work in a lab though, I know that the prints will only be as good as the person operating the machine. That said, I'm very happy with my Costco. You can download printer profiles from them, and as with most online printers, including Shutterfly, you can check a box that tells them to not "correct" your work. If you don't do that, the lovely golden glow you loved on the sunset shot of your kid, will get color corrected out....

My suggestion is to crop them on your own, turn off auto color correction when you upload them to print, and choose a good printer.

I use Sam's Club for my normal shooting. If it's something special I go with Mpix.com.

I've tried Mpix, Meridian, Ritz, and Costco, including enlargements.

In my opinion, Costco does just as well as Mpix, and you can get your 4X6's in an hour, enlargements in two.

Nothing I hate more than waiting several days for an 8X10, then not being happy with it. At least with Costco you can make your tweeks and have it redone the same day.

Oh, and as stated by Sue, I check that "do not correct" box.

I use mpix and you can check a box to tell them not to color correct although I leave it. My prints are the same as what I uploaded.

I mostly print at home on an Epson R2880. When I send things out for print, I usually use either Miller's, White House Custom Color, or A&I here in Los Angeles.
