Malwarebytes: Nothing
CCleaner: 567Mb of junk

Staying with Firefox! Go with what works. Figure out the Email issue Wool. Never realized Outlook can run stand alone. Now I know...

Jay, also run the "registry" thing on ccleaner.
If there are any probs with the registry, it'll fix it. And there are things that it finds that can make the computer run slower.

Gee, it only found 137 issues...

Why would I be having problems. Now the question becomes, what exactly (if anything) did the computer-repair place do...?

Guess I'll have to go get in someone's grill after the holiday.

As you saw via FB, I went directly to Step 6...

Step 2 is an issue only because I've got 400+ days left on my current subscription
Step 3 is a definite possibility
Step 5 is on my list

You forgot Step 8: Go MAC...

You should be able to contact Symantec customer support and get a pro-rated refund. Worth a shot! I use AVG too, although only on my laptop since the wife uses that. I don't use AV on my photo machine or my HTPC!

I've been using avast as my antivirus. And ccleaner. I just now downloaded your malwarebytes thing but thus far it's found nothing.

A clean Malwarebytes run is a VERY good thing! It means you stay out of trouble!

They likely haven't done anything!

Registry items are often found from uninstalling older software and/or drivers. Uninstall programs do not remove everything because they might not be the only one using it. CCleaner is a smart program that knows what your programs use and removes unnecessary objects.

yay. I did a complete scan and nothing came back. Windows is still so foreign to me after all these years with mac. It's nice to know it's going well.

Are you using Windows 7? It has been very good for me, no issues at all. My problems have been from other software or due to something I messed up, certainly can't fault MS or Windows for those!

no, vista 64bit. It's my laptop that I bought last year. I didn't normally use it for anything except travel. But it's not a bad machine. I didn't feel like upgrading to windows 7 because I was going to stay with mac. I think my next machine will be windows though. Not that my mac is bad..it's still running great. But it can't run any new programs (cuz it's 5...lol)

It only took MS to 7 to finally get it right. Win 7 is such a nice OS....you don't have to reboot every couple of hours....the updates work smooth....just works the way it is supposed to. Now if they could fix some of their other bloated crap....they would be on to something.

Windows had done ok, you just have to remember that every other OS is a good one. Win 3.2 in it's day was a great OS. powerfull by the standard of the day and stable. Win 95 sucked but win 98 was also a good OS. I still have a win98 OS machine running. It hasn't been messed with for over a decade but still runs fine. Win ME should have been called Win suck-me cause it sucked but XP ran great. Vista sucked at Win-7 is another home run. So, the next MS-OS will suck so skip that one and get the one after. :)

Ahem. Win 3.2 was not an OS. It ran on DOS. MSDOS 5.1, IIRC, which was a very stable OS. Win 3.2 was completely flaky running on earlier versions of MSDOS.

I refused to run it, although I liked DOS 5. I switched to OS/2, but eventually downgraded to Win95 because nobody supported OS/2. A fantastic OS, OS/2.

Now I use the original OS/2 2.1 CD as a coaster beside my monitor.

Funny thing....MS says it was an OS....based on a DOS shell.

Microsoft Windows 3.1 is a 16-bit operating system for use on personal computers.

Either way....my wife worked for IBM in those days and we had one machine with Windows 3.1 and one with OS/2....OS/2 was fine for the folks with a streak of geek...but it didn't play well to the average person just learning computer basics. Even though she worked on writing code for the OS/2 platform....my wife always used the Windows computer at home. That left an impression on me.
