Happy Thanksgiving my Friends. Thank you for your help with the computer issue. It's been cooking all day with the new video card (no issues) and now with Firefox, Peace is at hand!

I'm very thankful for each and every one of you!

Heh! Hearing about Mike, Jay and my PC problems the past few days, but I've been just ensconced on my laptop and letting my daughter and grandson soak the last of the life out of my 5-year-old desktop...until...

Last night my network connection began biting the dust! It would run for a while and then just stop -- I tried rebooting my router which has "woken things up" at times but still down, up down up...all yesterday evening and then into this morning when I was trying to stay on top of business...

Finally I ran into my daughter and griped about it and said I was ready to call in a Comcast service person. And then she calmly reminded be that any time the temperatures drop much below freezing here we have an internet sloooowdown -- it's been like that for years, I'm just never prepared...and then it dawned on me that things have been pretty cold here for the past couple of days...I felt pretty silly.

And now, to top the "silly factor" off, I have a bad case of chronic hiccups...

Cold shouldn't effect your connection. That is odd.

Well yeah, one would think -- it's been going on for a long time now whenever temps drop into say the 'teens. I wonder if it's because Comacast here is still in the process of upgrading from copper to fiber optic?

If you have a copper connection with too short of a tail, it could be pulling slightly away when it contracts in the cold....not enough to break the connection, but enough to effect it. Seems a stretch though.

Well, it's gotta be something! I've had Comcast service people here who have found various "things" over time but they have been problems that have been identifiable...I guess I'll have to drag them out in cold weather...

I had something similar a few years back. Almost exact same symptom. Comcast came out a bunch of times and replaced a bunch of stuff. I finally convinced them that the splitter that bleeds off the internet needs replacing and that did the trick.

Sounds like a cold solder joint, perhaps in the splitter like JJ mentioned.

Details.. details...

Actually I think I meant win3.11

IIRC there was a Win 3.2 WfWG released in Europe.

When it does, it's the ISP's problem anyhow, so "it always happens" shouldn't be an acceptable answer.

Win 3.2 was known as the Chinese Windows. It really was 3.11 but when it came out for the Chinese market it installed as 3.2

I agree. Comcast needs to fix it. There has to be a traceable signal loss somewhere. We went round and round with Charter here....they kept trying to say that there was a problem in my house and the house next door. Turns out they had a bad amplifier feeding the whole neighborhood....we just happened to be the two most remote connections on the feed. They replaced things and we haven't had a blip since.

Well OK, you guys have convinced me -- I'll have to call Comcast and let them know that my "board of experts" have concluded that they have a problem:)!

Now, will it be something they can spot even when it's not cold enough for the problem to show up? The modem itself "looked like" it was behaving (indicator lights showed normal activity) but on the computers both showed either no or extremely slow activity...
