I found a Grasshopper in the yard amongst the plants and thought "OH BOY", a new model for my M42 to EOS Frankenstein macro set up. :D
This little fella didn't want to cooperate, and kept hiding under leaves, behind stems, or whatever it could. I spread my fingers to either side of the stem it was hiding behind, and to my delight it stepped right onto my hand. Then it decided to play hard to get once more, going under my hand while I was rolling my hand back over to expose it on the backside of my hand while trying to get it in focus for the shot.
Then it happened. The Grasshopper just leaned non chalantly over and bit the tip of my little finger. This was the resulting shot. Sorry, it's not the sharpest, but HEY, I was getting BIT at the same time. ;)
BTW, The Grasshopper flew away after that.

OUCH... I'm very afraid of bugs. Like how elephants are afraid of mice I guess. Quite a beautiful armor your grasshopper has. You're like that crazy guy on the Discovery Channel who always tries to get bugs to bit himself!!!

Me neither, question is........

Would you let him bite you again to get the perfect shot!

The thing I love about Macro is that its a whole different world and never having seen a grasshopper up close i would probably let it bite me too to get a good shot.

If the pain and any subsequent infection weren't toooooo bad, the i recommend you let it chomp away. After all whatever it consumes should grow back eventually.

Another idea is to get a volunteer such as the wife or neighbour, you get all the glory with no pain

You know, I never would have thought it would bite either. WOW, remind me not to let one walk on my hand, Mosquitoes are bad enough. Excellent perseverance, and the shot still came out great.

This is the culprit just prior to chomping time. As you can see, it was in a dark area of the plant, so the photo is a bit dark and is the reason I tried to coax it out.

If that last one was just a tad sharper it would be perfect, seems like they never sit still when you want them to

Weird, the eye looks like it has a pupil, but it can not. That would be an aweson photo had conditions been better. (Sorry you got bitten).
