Anyone else upgrade their 3GS to OS4? A friend of mine updated yesterday and said it wiped all of his stored contacts including mail and phone. I've been holding off on updating my 3GS but I may update the iPad if it's really going to make it a better experience (hopefully they fixed the Youtube freezing problems I was seeing on the iPad).

There used to be Canon gear here but it disappeared.

Yeah I upgraded my 3GS to iOS4 with no problems at all. Pleased with folders and spell check in particular and it's nice to have a background at last!

True, i'm more excited about the update for my ipad though.

Is the iOS4 available for iPad yet?

Thanks, the multi-tasking option would have been nice now. Better late than never, I suppose.

So, any news? How do people with 2G iPods like the OS4 update? Are there any problems or slowdowns?

Only problems I have so far is a few games do not run on iOS4 yet.

Its not any slower as the hardware does not support multi-threads so it is acting pretty much the same so far. No noticeable change in performance.

And the only thing I do any different is the folders. I went from 10 to 4 screens. A lot faster to get to what you want. But other than folders, I cant say it is any different for a touch.

Ta :) There are a couple of apps I use that have updated versions that only work on OS4. I might have to get it some time.

I was able to install OS4 on my 3g successfully, but it slowed the phone down way more than I like. Does any one know of a tutorial on how to go back to OS3? Is that even an option?

Have the people complaining of slowdowns tried rebooting their phones?

Well, I did it, not without some hassle though. On my XP PC it got stuck 1/3 of the way through the iOS4 install, and got stuck at the same point of the restore, three times. I ended up connecting it to my flatmates Mac, he did the restore which put iOS4 onto it, and when I connected it to my PC again it put all my apps and data back onto it. Without the Mac i'd have been stuffed.

So far I like it. It's not significantly slower, I like the enhancements like app folders, email changes, and the general tweaks. One thing i've noticed is when I turn it on it has the wireless network already, which suggests it's not letting it go, which might be why people are saying it uses more battery. I'll probably just turn wireless off when i'm not using it if I find it's a problem.

I'll report back if I have more impressions.

Upgraded to iOS4 the other week and have regretted it ever since. Apart from slowing down the phone, I've had more freezes, since i upgraded, than in the previous 18 months. Not good.

Tried the reboot, hard resets and the restore via iTunes and it is still cr@p. I wish I waited now until the problems were known.

It's a ploy by Apple to make 3G users upgrade. ;)

I've found both NYTimes and AP News to be less stable on iOS4, and the UI is slightly less responsive. I find WiFi a little more reliable. Right now i'd say I prefer the previous version, but either are ok.
