Have You Insured Your Equipment?

Just curious, those who have the more expensive cameras, have you insured your equipment? If so, who/where did you insure it with, and what is your premium?

My equipment is not the most expensive, but I was thinking of insuring it all, camera, lenses, bags, etc..

Thanks!

Put it on your house contents policy its invariably cheaper that separate insurance , unless you are a pro and make your living by using it.
Mine with £5K cover costs and extra £8 /month on top of my normal house and contents cover

In the States you can use State Farm Insurance. I had a $2500 policy that cost $35 a year for non-professional use of the equipment.

I have over $4,000.00 in gears now, I really want to get an insurance, but that service is not available for gadgets/electronic products here in our country

Yes, locally I paid about $750 for equipment and liability cover.

Insured for full replacement value with no deductible on about $8,000 worth of gear for $105/year.

To have it as a rider on the house insurance would have been about $30 cheaper, but would also have meant a $200 deductible and insured at my cost only. But I got everything on sale, big sales, and paid only $6,000 for that $8,000 of gear. So for a few more dollars I went full replacement with no deductible. No brainer.

Our house policy covers $3,000 worth of camera gear without a rider. This is useful for the little Canon S5IS , plus the tripod, monopod and other extras that go with the DSLR. Also checked on computer equipment as the laptop is often travelling with me when the camera is ... up to $2,000 covered by the house policy.

I don't yet, but I just got off the phone with State Farm. They quoted me $115/yr on $8,000 with no deductible and full replacement. I am going to do it once I get a day off work since they need me to bring all the paperwork from the purchases down to their office.

Covered on business insurance...

Including travel.

A lot of insurance will not cover travel use I believe as we had to stipulate that, so be careful (in UK).

In Canada the absolute best value for a small photo business (or any small business for that matter) is the Entrepreneur Plus insurance from Peace Hills.

basically it is $25k - $100k in equipment coverage, $2M liability, $50k in business loss. If you have home insurance with Peace Hills this rider is dirt cheap. I think I pay about $135 a year for the policy.

I just got through insuring my gear through USAA for just $7 a month. Not a pro or anything, I'm just someone that doesn't have the money to replace any of my gear should it grow legs or get dropped in the pool.

Yep, everything's insured including travel and liability insurance.

The price: close to 400CAD a year with TD Meloche Monnex.

State Farm here, $5,000 coverage for about $60/year, non-pro. I think they said it was about $12 per $1,000 coverage annually. It covers everything from lost to damage and includes a "idiot" clause - which means i can slam my car door on a lens and still covers it. Also includes same for domestic and international travel. The only thing it doesn't cover is loss/damage due to law enforcement. So if it gets confiscated, I'm out of luck.
