im an amateur by all means but id like some feed back on my photos. of course people that see my photos that have never done photography think they are great. but, id like some feedback from others who have taken their share of pictures. i figure it would be easier to post my flikr acct than to post a bunch of pics but i can do that too if necessary. however, the flikr pics basically go in order of dates posted so it can give an idea of any progress ive made.

You'll get a better response if you post a few pics here for us to see. Pick a couple of your best and put them in this thread.

how about, instead of posting saying youre not going to comment, just dont comment. i specifically gave reason to view in flikr. if you dont like it, you dont have to comment. also no reason to fill up space on the forum if not necessary.

Asking for a critique on progress is a bit much, IMO... so I'll just cherry pick a few of your shots.

I think some of the portraits are quite nice (516, 531, 534). Exposure looks good with exception of 516 which looks slightly overexposed - children are very pale and girl's dress looks blown out), subjects look comfortable and happy. Subjects pop out of the frame (fill the frame too!) and the backgrounds are clean (534 tree placement not ideal but not too bad). I would watch out for:

- framing. 516 and 534, especially 534, cut off body parts. 531 is just a tiny, tiny bit tight IMO.
- depth of field. Most of them look ok, but the dog looks a bit fuzzy in 531.

Why are you shooting in shutter priority?

You asking us to critique your progress on a bunch of random photos is like asking someone to compare apples to oranges.

I could see if you were shooting one subject over and over again, then it would be easier to critique your progress.

I hate flickr, but for the most part it looks like you are progressing. Practice makes perfect.

Love the dog, do you know what breed it is?
Looks like a golden retriever but it has a Fox-like coat...

I'll comment on the photo of the dog, since it was posted here.

Exposure and focus looks spot on. DOF also looks good. However, the photo looks too tightly cropped to me. I definitely want more room on the right.

i shoot a lot in tv, av, and manual. i just happened to be in tv. i try to use all the modes on the camera to find strengths and weaknesses. i do wish the dog was in focus in 531. i did some unsharp mask on her and it looks a little better, but i was just shooting for fun with the family so i will chalk it up to a learning process. im trying to get my framing dialed in. thanks for the advice

i agree, unfortunatey there was a tree out of frame to the right and if i would have moved, id have missed the moment that he actually stood still. thanks for the critique

Seems to have kept the hansom colour and retriever features, yet taken the 'wolfier' coat of the shepherd.
