First time for me to capture one of these. I wish it had stayed in the open a little more, but I was lucky to get these.

Nice catch Ken. A very difficult bird to get out into the open. I've been trying to get a shot of one in a local pond lately, but am having no luck at all.
Well done.

Nice shots of a difficult-to-photo bird Ken.

Well done.

Thanks. I caught a glimpse of it and then heard it calling. I did my best Sora call and fooled just long enough for these shots.

Thanks Sharon. I've only seen them a couple of times myself.

Thanks Steve. I didn't see a whole lot else, so this bird made my morning.

Well captured Ken. I only saw my first Sora in late May but it was on the other side of a pond at the time. :(

I've never seen one, but heard they are quite elusive. Well done Ken!

Very nice find and capture Ken... nicely done... I think that second shot is a beauty... such a unique looking bird, I have never seen one before.

Thanks for the comment. Now that you know where one is, all you need is some patience.

Thanks Steve. They can certainly make themselves hard to see.

Thanks db. I like the second one better too. There was a third, but the face was completely obscured. Nice clear view of the tail though.

Ken, you were very lucky to get these as the Sora does not come into the open very often and never stays out more than a couple of seconds it seems. Good shooting.

I don't need a second childhood. I'm not finished yet with the first one.

I've never seen one of these, but I do know how difficult Rails can be. Around here on the east coast of North Carolina the more common Rails are the Virginia, Clapper and King with the occasional Black and Yellow Rail visitor
I always hear them in the tall marsh grasses hiding, and every once in a while I will see them in a channels that run throughout the estuary staying right along the edge of the marsh grass for that quick escape into cover.
I've never had a good clear shot of one to get a nice picture. The closest I got was when I just happen to see one jump out of the marsh grass to cross a narrow channel just to hide in the tall marsh grass on the other side. I snapped off a picture but it's nowhere near as good as yours.

It was a luck shot.

I saw one crossing a road that ran through a marsh once.. That's the only one I've ever seen. Great capture of a shy bird...
