After investing in a 5D2 and the 24-105L my 30D just sat there and I decided to buy a walkaround lens for it so this way the 5d2 does not get "destroyed" on our outings (anyone who has 3 small children know exactly what I'm talking about) My objective was to find a lens just for those snapshots at parks, camping etc. Anyways the only appealing focal range was the 17-85mm IS for the crop bodies. I was really hesitant due to all the negative feedback and bad reviews. I took a gamble and bought one from adorama (refurbished) for 329, great deal i think. Came like brand new. Anyways after using it for a couple of weeks I am amazed at the image quality this lens produces. Of course its not in the same league as the L glass but for the price its pretty darn good! Its a very sharp lens and I think that everyone just does not give it a fair shake. Just my 2 pennies worth. Well worth the money!

for 329 it's very worth the money ... i think people rant on it because of it's SRP and what you get for that amount. bought mine for 600+USD. ouch.
